My Experience

My journey began in 1990 when I took a train to Hollywood, CA to attend school at The Institute of Audio and Video Engineering. It was a small school that specialized in multi-track recording, music and video production. The instructors were engineers and editors working in Hollywood. They were amazing and would teach these classes at night and on the weekend. From there I received an internship to work on the American Top 40 show. This was my introduction to non-linear editing as the engineer I worked with was using the earliest version of Pro-Tools.

My first studio job was at Weddington Studios, a multitrack audio recording studio in North Hollywood CA. As both first and second audio engineer, I worked on projects that included 50 piece orchestras with Mike Post, Voice overs for the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles cartoons and recording and mixing with many musical artists.

My next stop was at RAVE Video production studio in Burbank, CA. The Studio owner Rex Olson was a great mentor; I learned so much from him including multi-camera remote production, video engineering and editing. We worked on national commercials and infomercials, including an infamous one with (then) Bruce Jenner and a stair-climber exercise machine. One of our regular gigs was to create music instructional videos for the Hal Leonard publishing company. The videos were called called Starlicks and they could be found in music stores across the world. We had the privilege of working with famous musicians such as Flea, Joe Walsh, Larry Graham, Trevor Rabin, Quincy Jones, Herbie Hancock and many more on these iconic videos.

The music instructional videos led to creating instructional videos for another product that had just hit the market, the Video Toaster. We created videos that covered how to use the toaster, and its brand new 3d animation software, Lightwave 3D. The videos were a hit, and we continued to create new ones for each new version release. I edited most of these, and learned 3d animation along the way.

After spending several years in LA, I moved back to La. That is, Lafayette, Louisiana which is my home town. I’ve freelanced as an animator continuously over the years, but have also worked several other related jobs locally. I was the senior Avid editor at KATC-TV3 and setup their first non-linear editing suite. I was also the video director at the Cajundome, where I managed the equipment and crew and directed multi-camera live events like ECHL Hockey games, UL College Basketball games, and many other events.

Thanks to the Louisiana tax credits, I have also had the pleasure of working locally with feature film and visual effects companies that would normally be working out of Hollywood. First, with Activity Entertainment, I worked on features for the FX channel. I also had the pleasure of working with, and learning from, Pixel Magic VFX on productions like Harry Potter, Men in Black, etc. Click on the IMDb link below to visit my page there and find out what other movies I’ve worked on.
